SPRING BRANCH - Two storied football programs met in Ranger Stadium and fought to a 0-0 tie after a half of play. The Permian offense turned in a sluggish effort, while Smithson Valley worked their way into Panther territory on three occasions in the first half. The Mojo defense denied the Rangers on all three of those drives, two of which were inside the red zone. The Rangers mounted the only scoring drive of the game late in the third quarter, when Lawrence Mattison busted loose on a 20-yard touchdown run to give Smithson Valley a 6-0 lead. That lead would last the remainder of the game, as the Panthers dropped the season opener on Friday night.
